Role Significance

The Housing Officer plays a crucial role in delivering tenancy and property management services within the Housing Programs team. Your contributions will enhance the quality of life for our clients and positively influence the community.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing a diverse portfolio of housing, including managing allocations, conducting eligibility assessments, addressing anti-social behavior, overseeing rent management, and providing referral advice.
  • Reducing rental losses and property damage while ensuring compliance with required standards and optimizing cost recovery for repairs.
  • Encouraging tenant engagement; facilitating feedback and complaints processes, and documenting and reporting on activities.
  • Maintaining properties to high standards; developing and implementing long-term and cyclical maintenance plans.
  • Conducting regular property inspections; collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective and timely maintenance services.
  • Keeping tenant and property records in line with organizational procedures and legal requirements; analyzing data to report on evolving needs and program trends; assisting in monitoring rent, bonds, and client repayments.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have experience in real estate or social housing. Your understanding of current legislation and the needs of individuals seeking affordable housing will enable you to provide effective solutions. Your empathetic nature will help you connect with a diverse clientele. A service-oriented approach will guide your interactions with both internal and external stakeholders. You should be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a larger team.

To excel in this position, your qualifications and experience should ideally include:

  • Certificate IV in Social Housing or a comparable community services qualification, or relevant experience.
  • Insight into the housing needs and challenges faced by low-income individuals, those facing discrimination, or those at risk of homelessness.
  • Familiarity with the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008.
  • A minimum of three years in tenancy management or a related community services role.
  • Proven ability to operate within a legislative framework.
