About the Position

This is a challenging role that requires local knowledge and connections to coordinate and manage field operations in regional and remote areas. The successful candidate will lead small teams responsible for Census collection activities.

Key responsibilities include project management, training provision, planning and administrative support, daily quality checks, workplace health and safety compliance, and logistical activities oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of field staff.
  • Work remotely and/or travel to various work areas as required.
  • Develop, update, and review work plans for the area of responsibility.
  • Connect with the community, establish networks, and maintain relationships.
  • Promote participation in the Census within the community.
  • Collaborate with other Census and ABS staff.
  • Read and interpret operational information using software and systems.
  • Monitor progress and provide project management support and administrative assistance as needed.
  • Provide regular written and/or verbal progress reports.
  • Complete administration forms and other duties as directed.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and manage Work Health and Safety requirements/activities.
  • Work collaboratively with other Census and ABS staff, providing cultural considerations and/or area-level intelligence.
  • Gather support for the Census from Local Government and community organisations.
  • Provide in-field assistance when required.
Requirements
  • Understanding of and ability to communicate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
  • Local area knowledge and the ability to read and navigate maps.
  • Ability to communicate and develop relationships with people in the workplace and community.
  • Capability to work independently, prioritise tasks with limited guidance, and make decisions independently.
  • Strong project management skills, particularly in an operational setting.
  • Leadership or management experience, including remote teams, in a busy, high-volume environment.
