About the Role
The Work Experience Manager role is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of Defence work experience programs for high school and tertiary students. As a key member of the Youth Policy and Programs Directorate team, you will play a critical role in showcasing Defence careers and building strong relationships with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiate and facilitate Defence work experience opportunities for students, highlighting the diverse range of careers available in Defence.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Defence personnel, schools, parents, and youth and diversity related organisations.
- Lead a small team to deliver youth safe programs, working with autonomy and accountability to ensure successful outcomes.
- Communicate goals and priorities clearly, assigning resources to deliver work experience programs.
Work Environment
The Work Experience Manager will be required to attend Defence sites in the Northern Territory to deliver and develop programs, with flexibility in working arrangements outside these physical operational requirements. Most work will be office-based, but the role may involve standing for extended periods or walking/participating in activities on a Defence base. Frequent planned travel may be required to attend or supervise work experience placements and promote Defence work experience programs at career expos and Defence open days.
About Our Team
The Youth Policy and Programs Directorate team is a geographically spread team of around 30 positions, delivering work experience placements for students and developing policy and practices to support the safety of youth in Defence. Opportunities for curiosity, collaboration, and knowledge transfer across the team and locations are encouraged to develop sound decision-making skills. Team members are supported with opportunities for continuous learning and professional development, especially in youth and diversity related fields.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a passionate and adaptable individual who is committed to working with youth and supporting them to plan their own pathways to success. The ideal candidate will possess well-developed organisational skills, high attention to detail, and experience in managing competing priorities and deadlines. They will also have an engaging communication style, with well-developed skills in written and verbal communication, and strategic thinking capabilities to apply creative problem-solving skills to develop effective solutions.
