City of Glen Eira, Australia State of Washington Full time
Job Title: Park Ranger 2 In-Training
Location: Statewide
___________________________

This is a unique opportunity to engage in a fulfilling career as a Park Ranger within Washington's stunning state parks. As a Park Ranger, you will have the chance to work in natural settings, share your enthusiasm for the outdoors with visitors, and safeguard both the public and the state's environmental treasures. This role offers numerous avenues for professional development and career advancement.

**IMPORTANT UPDATE** In light of recent legislative changes, candidates who have not completed a law enforcement academy will be required to participate in the 18-week Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA), with all associated costs covered by the agency.

(Candidates who have attended a different law enforcement academy will need to provide a syllabus for equivalency certification and may need to complete a two-week BLEA Equivalency Course. Those unable to certify their law enforcement equivalency will be required to attend the full 18-week BLEA academy.)

Park Ranger 2's play a crucial role in the conservation, protection, and enhancement of our state parks and natural resources, while ensuring the safety and well-being of park visitors. Responsibilities include public engagement, providing information, identifying and safeguarding sensitive ecological and historical sites, and delivering educational presentations about park resources and related subjects. Specific duties may vary depending on the park location.

This recruitment effort aims to fill both current and future full-time, permanent Park Ranger positions across Washington State. Placement will consider various factors, including candidate preferences and agency requirements. Specific park assignments will be discussed with candidates after a conditional job offer has been extended.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • A valid driver's license (unrestricted, except for corrective lenses).
  • Must be at least 21 years old at the time of hire.
  • Two (2) years of college education (Military service, commissioned law enforcement experience, or relevant experience in Natural Resource or Recreation fields may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Prior experience working in a State or National Park.
  • Coursework in Natural Resources or Recreation.
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish.
  • Awareness and understanding of Native American tribal culture, history, and practices.

**Candidates must have graduated from a qualifying law enforcement academy (or currently be attending one) or must have worked as a commissioned (and armed) law enforcement officer or WA State commissioned Park Ranger within the last 24 months from the date of hire. If you have previously worked in a fully commissioned (and armed) law enforcement capacity in Washington State but haven't done so within the past 24 – 60 months, you can still apply. Applications will be reviewed by subject matter experts to determine qualifications. Successful candidates may be required to complete additional equivalency training.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

To ensure your application is considered, you must complete the online job application. This recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies.

To be considered, your application package must include:

  1. A complete online application detailing all past work history (including supervisors' names and contact information) and education for at least the last ten (10) years.
  2. A Letter of Interest.
  3. Five (5) professional references with contact information. We will reach out to your current and previous supervisors.
  4. A completed Supplemental Questionnaire, which will be reviewed by subject matter experts to ensure compliance with Park Ranger law enforcement standards.
  5. For veterans, a member 4 copy of your DD214, DD256, or NGB22.
