___________________________
This is a unique opportunity to embark on a fulfilling career as a Park Ranger within the stunning landscapes of Washington's state parks. As a Park Ranger, you will engage with nature, educate the public about environmental stewardship, and safeguard both visitors and the state's natural treasures. This role offers numerous avenues for professional development and career advancement.
**Important Update** Recent legislative changes require candidates who have not attended a law enforcement academy to enroll in the Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA), a comprehensive 18-week program. The agency will sponsor your attendance and cover the associated costs.
For candidates who have completed a different law enforcement academy, a general equivalency certification will be necessary, along with attendance at a two-week BLEA Equivalency Course if required. Those unable to certify their law enforcement equivalency will need to attend the full 18-week BLEA academy.
Park Ranger 2 personnel are tasked with the critical responsibilities of conserving, safeguarding, and enhancing our state parks and natural resources while ensuring the safety and well-being of park visitors. Key duties include public engagement, providing information, protecting sensitive ecological areas, and delivering educational presentations about park resources and related subjects. Law enforcement activities are also part of the role, with specific responsibilities varying by park location.
This recruitment process aims to fill both current and future full-time, permanent Park Ranger positions across Washington State. Placement within specific parks will depend on various factors, including candidate preferences and agency requirements. Discussions regarding specific park locations will occur after a conditional job offer is extended.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency.
- A valid, unrestricted driver's license (except for corrective lenses).
- Must be at least 21 years old by the date of hire.
- Two years of college education (Military experience, commissioned law enforcement experience, or relevant natural resource or recreation field experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Prior experience working in a State or National Park.
- College coursework in Natural Resources or Recreation.
- Bilingual – English/Spanish.
- Familiarity with Native American tribal culture, history, and practices.
**Candidates must have graduated from a qualifying law enforcement academy or have recent experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer or WA State commissioned Park Ranger. If you have prior experience in a fully commissioned law enforcement role in Washington State but it has been over 24 months, you may still apply. Applications will be evaluated by subject matter experts to determine qualifications, and successful candidates may need to complete additional training.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
To ensure your application is considered, you must complete the online job application. This recruitment may be utilized to fill multiple vacancies.
Your application package must include:
- A complete online application detailing your work history and education for the past ten years.
- A Letter of Interest.
