Job Summary

We're seeking a skilled Butchery Buyer to join our team, responsible for purchasing, promotional, and product maintenance within the butcher category.

This role involves working with inbound supply and demand teams to ensure a continuous supply of products to our store network, while also collaborating with store operations to have the right products ranged in the right stores with correct stock levels to meet consumer demand.

Key Responsibilities

Sourcing

  • Source products that fit our business needs, with sound quality, value for money, and alignment with our sourcing policy.
  • Local sourcing is preferred, with a focus on diverse selections that are more market than supermarket.
  • Build new categories and bring new products to market.

Supplier Management

  • Conduct range reviews and rationalisation.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements with suppliers.
  • Manage inventory control, OOS protection, and product/system maintenance.
  • Develop promotional programs and source new supply.

Pricing

  • Set pricing in line with category margin requirements.
  • Conduct ongoing competitive price reviews.
  • Maintain store prices and understand geographic locations to optimise price points.

Communication and Operations

  • Regularly communicate with store teams, warehouse staff, and vendors.
  • Collaborate with senior store managers and area managers daily.
  • Conduct regular store visits, educate store teams, and respond to store inquiries.

Promotional Planning

  • Develop weekly promotional plans and work with others for cross-promotion opportunities.
  • Manage promotional ordering and conduct ongoing competition checks.

Sustainable Sourcing

  • Develop packaging guidelines for best sustainable outcomes in line with shopper expectations and commercial business goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in retail buying or a similar role.
  • A passion for food.
  • Strong understanding of supply and demand forecasting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong decision-making skills and alignment with our company values.
