Marmalade is an innovative invoice payment platform redefining business payments. It empowers businesses to expedite the payment of unpaid invoices when needed, alleviating cash flow strain without incurring debt and enabling them to grow at their own pace.
With Marmalade, businesses can choose to have an unpaid invoice paid in advance of the due date minus a low one-time fixed fee with the funds delivered within hours. The platform integrates seamlessly with Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks without any modifications required to how a business invoices.
Marmalade is constantly evolving and setting new standards around invoice payments.
We are enthusiastic about the journey ahead and recognize we are only scratching the surface of what's possible.
The RoleThis is an opportunity for an experienced compliance professional who thrives at the intersection of regulation, governance, and commercial ambition to shape the compliance foundations of a fast-growing fintech.
As the first dedicated Compliance and Regulatory Manager, you will not only maintain registers but also build and steer the frameworks that keep us sharp, accountable, and ahead of our obligations.
You will own our AML/CTF Program end-to-end, drive our engagement with AUSTRAC and ASIC, and embed compliance thinking into every product, process, and decision we make.
- Own regulatory framework ownership: Ensure Marmalade's compliance framework aligns with ASIC (AFSL, RG185) and AUSTRAC (AML/CTF) obligations.
- Maintain centralized Legal & Regulatory Obligations Register as it relates to AUSTRAC, ASIC, and the Privacy Act.
- Manage the Legal Risk and Compliance Forum, ensuring cross-functional engagement on compliance issues, remediation, and product reviews.
- Own compliance-related policies (AML/CTF, AFSL obligations, complaints/dispute resolution) and ensure they remain current, effective, and fit-for-purpose.
- Assess and provide compliance input for new products, features, or business initiatives, engaging external counsel where necessary.
- Manage AUSTRAC reporting obligations, including suspicious matter reporting, annual compliance reports, and threshold transaction reporting (where applicable).
- Ensure compliance with tipping-off restrictions and all statutory reporting timeframes.
- Oversee KYC/CDD/ECDD processes and manage Marmalade's relationship with KYC/KYB vendors, ensuring outsourcing arrangements meet AML/CTF obligations.
- Monitor changes in legislation, regulation, and ASIC/AUSTRAC guidance, updating registers and policies as required.
- Coordinate compliance training and awareness programs for staff on AML/CTF and AFSL obligations.
- Jointly execute complaints handling and dispute resolution obligations under RG185 and AFSL requirements.
- Support preparation and responses to ASIC or AUSTRAC audits, reviews, or notices.
- Liaise with regulators and external legal counsel on compliance matters, ensuring proactive and transparent engagement.
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of implementing and managing compliance within regulatory frameworks, ideally in AML/CTF or AFSL contexts.
- Knowledge of complaints handling and dispute resolution obligations under the AFSL regime.
- Familiarity with AUSTRAC reporting systems and ASIC regulatory engagement processes.
- Experience 3–5 years' experience in compliance, AML/CTF, or regulatory roles within financial services, legal, or consulting environments.
What makes this different from a traditional compliance role? Pace and impact. At Marmalade, your work won't gather dust in a policy folder, decisions move fast, and your advice will directly shape customer experience, regulator relationships, and our ability to scale with confidence.
If you're ready to push beyond a tick-the-box approach to compliance and play a pivotal role in building a culture of proactive, pragmatic regulatory excellence, we'd love to talk.
