Job Purpose

As an Airport Operations Manager at Emirates, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe, efficient, and cost-effective airport operation that maintains and enhances the company's image, reputation, and customer service levels to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and periodically reviewing strategies to ensure that airport staff adhere to all procedures, standards, and instructions as laid down by Airport Services Procedures.
  • Achieving Ground Handling performance targets set by Airport Services, such as flight punctuality, check-in standards, and baggage delivery times, to maintain Emirates' competitiveness.
  • Ensuring the safety and security of the entire operation, including aircraft, passengers, cargo, baggage, and staff, by monitoring all aspects of the operation and maintaining acceptable customer service standards.
  • Leading, guiding, and developing staff to maintain a disciplined, motivated workforce and adherence to passenger service and operation standards.
  • Performing administrative duties accurately and timely, such as monthly reports, performance appraisals, baggage claim settlements, invoice verification, general correspondence, and complaint investigation.
  • Preparing and reviewing local procedures for diversion, delay handling, disruptions, and emergency procedures for reference by Emirates staff and Handling Agent staff.
  • Checking the competency of Emirates and Handling Agent staff in all areas, particularly Load Control, where certification and licenses are required.
  • Representing Emirates at official forums, such as AOC meetings, AOC sub-committees, and Working Group meetings, and liaising with government organizations, such as Customs, Immigration, AFP, and CASA.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with internal and external departments, airport authorities, Ground Handling Agents, and other service providers to achieve required end results for Emirates.
  • Accountable for annual budgeting of revenue, expenses, and capital expenditure, providing a cost-efficient service that represents value for money, and creating dynamic measurement and reporting systems for periodic reports on operations.
  • Accountable person for Emergency Planning, including maintaining the localized station ERP, training, exercising, and lobbying for change or awareness amongst the airport community or internal stakeholders.
  • Providing required support for Drug and Alcohol testing process when the external provider carries out random testing to ensure Emirates management presence and relevant documentation and other formalities are handled in line with Company procedures.
  • The Airport Operations Manager should conduct regular audits on Ground Handling agencies to ensure the defined scope of regulation aspects of the role is maintained, using a checklist provided by the EKAS Quality Manager, and reporting any findings and observations to EKAS Quality.
Qualifications & Experience

Requirements include:

  • Education to a degree level.
  • Qualification to an advanced level in Passenger Services, Ground Operations, Baggage Claims, Reservations & Ticketing, and Weight and Balance.
  • Significant experience in Airport Passenger handling/Operations, with a considerable portion held at a managerial level.
  • Conversant with Flight Planning and pertinent aspects of Meteorology.
  • Proficient in the use of various computerized systems, such as DCS, Reservations, Baggage Tracing, and software packages used by the Company, such as Word, Excel, etc.
  • Ability to work under pressure in an environment requiring a high degree of initiative.
Other Information

Responsibilities include:

  • Adhering to relevant health and safety requirements and safe working practices applicable to their employment.
  • Being a senior member of the EKAS AU management team, requiring flexibility in respect of work, timings (24-hour call-out responsibility), and functions, and being prepared to work long and extended hours where necessary in times of disruption.
  • Administratively reporting to the Country Manager and functionally to the Airport Services Department in Head Office.
