Employment Lawyer Role Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Employment Lawyer to join our in-house legal team in Melbourne on a 6-9 month secondment. This is an exceptional opportunity to apply your expertise in employment law and industrial relations within one of Australia's largest employers.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise on employment law matters, including employment agreements, awards, terminations, performance management, and workplace investigations.
  • Navigate complex industrial relations issues, including union engagement and enterprise bargaining.
  • Draft and review workplace policies, contracts, and dispute correspondence.
  • Provide practical legal advice to HR and operational leaders on workforce strategy and compliance.
  • Assist in responding to claims or regulatory investigations (e.g., Fair Work Commission matters).
  • Monitor legislative changes and provide updates to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to training and internal guidance materials.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Australian Legal Practitioner with 4-8 years post-admission experience.
  • Strong background in employment law with demonstrable industrial relations experience.
  • Previous experience in a reputable law firm or in-house legal function.
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial outcomes.
  • Comfortable working with HR, senior leaders, and external counsel.
  • Proactive, professional, and adaptable in a fast-paced setting.
