Commercial Underwriting Professional Job Summary:
As a Commercial Lines Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating and managing a portfolio of commercial insurance policies. This includes analyzing risk factors, consulting with underwriters and support staff, and providing expert recommendations on technical systems and procedures.
You will review and assess complex niche business, determine acceptable risks, and prepare quotes and coverage options. Additionally, you will exercise sound judgment in analysis and decision-making processes to achieve desired profitability and growth of the book of business.
- Develops and implements strategic plans to drive business growth and profitability through underwriting expertise and market knowledge.
- Analyzes financial reports, location data, and inspection results to make informed decisions about coverage and premium levels.
- Collaborates with agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders to build strong relationships and drive positive business outcomes.
- Provides training and mentoring to lower-level underwriters to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Stays up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure the highest level of expertise and service delivery.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or related field of study.
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation or equivalent experience.
- At least six years of progressively responsible experience in commercial underwriting, including three years in a property and casualty insurance company.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products, including Excel for strategic analysis.
