Job Title: Nonprofit Human Services Underwriting Specialist

The primary objective of this role is to drive business growth and manage a portfolio of commercial lines by providing expert advice and guidance to underwriters and support staff.

This specialist will analyze and assess exposures and acceptable risks for Nonprofit Human Service Organizations and Education Institutions to determine coverages and premiums that are both adequate and competitive.

The successful candidate will develop strong relationships with agents to foster increased business flow and work under limited supervision, exercising significant independent judgment in performing their duties.

Accounts may vary in size but can include accounts up to $1,000,000 in written premium.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver profitable outcomes and grow a complex niche business portfolio through effective risk selection.
  • Analyze, select, and price business with prescriptive terms and conditions of coverage.
  • Examine inspection reports, location, risk, financial, and other available tools and reports to identify new or unresolved concerns.
  • Communicate with Risk Control for inspections, follow-ups, and service needs for insureds.
  • Drive corrective action or remediation strategies on renewal accounts.
  • Evaluate referrals in a timely manner on accounts that need additional review or approval by higher-level underwriters.
  • Achieve key performance indicators of the portfolio by developing and furthering successful relationships with distribution partners within the portfolio.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years underwriting all commercial lines (Commercial Property, General Liability, Professional Liability, Worker's Compensation, Crime, Commercial Auto, Umbrella, etc).
  • Prefer Nonprofit Human Services and Education underwriting experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and verbal.
  • Ability to analyze and make decisions in a timely manner.
  • Working towards or already possessing CPCU or other industry equivalent.
