About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Cook to join our team at Mezbaan Modern Indian Dining. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, including traditional Indian cuisine and modern adaptations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and prepare menus, estimating food and labor costs.
  • Ensure menu items are made according to recipe.
  • Develop new ideas and dishes, and cook's recipes are welcome.
  • Discuss events and functions with the Restaurant manager and staff to keep the kitchen prepared.
  • Prepare specialty items, including Indian dishes and tandoori bread.
  • Select, prepare, and cook vegetables, meat, poultry, and seafood for different menu items.
  • Produce Indian-style snacks, such as samosas, pakoras, and veg rolls.
  • Prepare sauces, accompaniments, and soups.
  • Presents and portions food on plates, adding sauces and garnishes.
  • Freeze and preserve foods, regulate oven temperatures, and examine foodstuffs to ensure quality.
  • Select and train staff, demonstrating cooking techniques and mentoring on cooking procedures.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen premises, following workplace hygiene procedures and regulations.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures, applying first aid if necessary.
  • Maintain kitchen stock inventory and order food supplies according to the order schedule.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Diploma of Hospitality Management and/or Cert IV Commercial Cookery is required.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
  • Excellent knife skills.
  • Modern and classical cooking techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Indian culinary arts.
  • Expert multitasking ability.
  • Well-presented and well-groomed.
  • Great leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Hard work ethic in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to communicate well with teammates and floor staff.

What We Offer:
  • Looking for candidates available to work in shifts.
  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience required for this role.
  • Expected salary: $70,000 - $80,000 per year plus superannuation.
