Job Opportunity

This role presents a unique chance to contribute to the delivery of culturally responsive mental health services. As an Aboriginal Mental Health Liaison Officer, you will work in hospital and community settings, ensuring access to appropriate services, advocating for culturally informed care, and fostering trust and understanding throughout the mental health journey.

The successful candidate will play a crucial part in planning and coordination of admissions, treatment pathways, case management, referrals, discharge processes, and follow-up care. This requires a deep understanding of the Aboriginal concept of social and emotional wellbeing, as well as knowledge of the social, psychological, and financial implications of hospitalisation for Aboriginal consumers.

You will be working in a multidisciplinary team environment, requiring effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and basic computer skills. A current NSW driver license is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure access to suitable mental health services for Aboriginal individuals and families.
  • Advocate for culturally sensitive care and support throughout the mental health journey.
  • Contribute to planning and coordination of admissions, treatment pathways, case management, referrals, discharge processes, and follow-up care.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports as required.
Selection Criteria:
  • Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a relevant area of care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Aboriginal concept of social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the social, psychological, and financial implications of hospitalisation for Aboriginal consumers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
