Job Overview:

The role of an Aboriginal Mental Health Liaison Officer is integral to delivering culturally safe and respectful care to Aboriginal individuals and families navigating mental health services. This position serves as a vital bridge between consumers, families, and health service providers.

This liaison officer will facilitate access to appropriate services, advocate for culturally informed care, and foster trust and understanding throughout the mental health journey. Key responsibilities include planning and coordination of admissions, treatment pathways, case management, referrals, discharge processes, and follow-up care.

A strong understanding of the Aboriginal concept of social and emotional wellbeing, including knowledge of Aboriginal family structure and Aboriginal culture and wisdom, is essential for this role.

To be successful in this position, candidates must possess effective written and verbal communication skills, basic computer skills, and a current NSW driver license. Additionally, candidates should be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a relevant area of care. Alternatively, they may be willing to undertake a minimum Certificate III Aboriginal Primary Health Care, including recognition of prior learning against current qualifications.
