
Mental Health Liaison Specialist

This role involves providing mental health support in Local Courts across NSW, conducting thorough evaluations and suggesting suitable treatment options to magistrates. The successful candidate will assist in diverting individuals with mental illness away from custody and into community-based care.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Mental Health Liaison Specialist will:
- Assist Local Court Magistrates in diverting defendants with mental illness into community-based care;
- Conduct thorough evaluations to identify suitable treatment options;
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers and community organizations;
- Provide education and training on mental health issues to court staff and the broader community;
- Collaborate with other service providers to ensure seamless transitions between services.
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess:
- A postgraduate qualification in mental health;
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a mental health setting, with at least 3 years in an acute mental health environment;
- Advanced mental health assessment, risk assessment, and diagnostic interview skills;
- Clinical leadership skills, including negotiation, problem-solving, and strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and build partnerships with key stakeholders.
