Electronics Engineer with Maritime Experience

Job Overview:
We are seeking an Electronics Engineer with experience in the maritime industry to join our team at the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in electronics and a proven track record of working on complex systems.
Salary: $71,201 - $76,799 per annum (plus 15.4% superannuation).
About the Role:
The Marine Communications Technical Officer (MCTO) is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all communications and navigation equipment on board ABF vessels. This includes assisting the Chief Engineering Officer, Communications Officer, and Commanding Officer in the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment, as well as providing technical advice and guidance to other crew members.
The ideal candidate will have a Certificate II in Electronics or equivalent, possess relevant technical knowledge and skills, and be able to diagnose and report technical issues. A General Operator's Certificate (GMDSS) and Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECIDS) Maintainer qualification would be highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment on board vessels
- Provide technical advice and guidance to other crew members
- Diagnose and report technical issues
- Work within the Marine Technical Regulatory System (MTRS)
Requirements:
- Certificate II in Electronics or equivalent
- Relevant technical knowledge and skills
- General Operator's Certificate (GMDSS)
- Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECIDS) Maintainer qualification
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
