Job Title

The Community Relations & Heritage Branch seeks a skilled professional to manage and protect Aboriginal cultural heritage for complex or large-scale projects.

This role works closely with various stakeholders, including Registered Aboriginal parties, Traditional Owners, Heritage Advisors, state and commonwealth government agencies, and proponents to achieve project objectives while safeguarding Aboriginal cultural heritage.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Administering the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006
  • Protecting and managing Aboriginal cultural heritage
  • Maintaining a register of Aboriginal places and objects
  • Working collaboratively with Registered Aboriginal Parties
  • Fulfilling the Secretary's role in administering Cultural Heritage Permits and Cultural Heritage Management Plans

The major projects program aims to balance protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage with project obligations under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. This involves recognition, protection, and conservation of Aboriginal cultural heritage based on respect for Aboriginal knowledge and cultural and traditional practices.
