About the Opportunity

Karlka Recruiting Group, a leading recruitment agency, has partnered with a State Government Agency to fill an exciting Assistant Director position. This role is ideal for a highly skilled professional with expertise in water policy and First Nations engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead research and analysis on First Nations water management policy issues, providing recommendations for improving recognition of First Nations values and objectives in company plans.
  • Support coordination of First Nations input into policy development as part of the company Plan Review, utilizing negotiation and liaison skills with cultural competency.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal and external partners, particularly First Nations groups.
  • Prepare policy briefings, position papers, and reports on macro and micro policy issues across various scales.
  • Identify risks and challenges to water reform implementation and develop innovative solutions.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills with First Nations people.
  • High-level research, analysis, and writing skills to articulate complex matters for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to maximize potential and deliver high-quality individual and team outcomes.
  • Adherence to Australian Public Service (APS) Employment Principles, Values, and Code of Conduct.

  • Promote equity, diversity, and health and safety principles.
Essential Criteria
  • Tertiary qualification in natural resource management, economics, or social sciences relevant to water resource management.
  • Experience working with First Nations groups in cultural and natural resource management, environmental, and/or social sciences disciplines.
