Job Title: Mental Health Support Specialist

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our community, you will provide personalized support to individuals with complex trauma and psycho-social challenges, aligned with their individual program plan.

You will work collaboratively with external care teams and families to ensure high-quality, responsive, and person-centered support to enhance everyday living skills, access to community participation, and achieve personal goals, thereby improving quality of life and physical and mental health.

Responsibilities:

  • Support daily living skills and community activities tailored to individual needs, including housekeeping, personal hygiene, medication administration, and transportation to appointments and community activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of participants' needs and care plans, including changes to care requirements.
  • Foster community inclusion and participation, dependent on individual needs, abilities, and preferences, supporting participants to establish and maintain relationships and interests through community activities and services.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams, attend training, and ensure adherence to treatment plans to deliver high-standard care.

Requirements:

  • A qualification in disability, mental health, or a related field (desired).
  • At least 2 years' experience working with individuals with complex mental illness, providing behavioral support.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with high needs.
  • A clear understanding of professional boundaries and restrictive practices.
  • Able to set priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, and under pressure.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clear case notes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration within a diverse team and autonomous work.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
  • A current First Aid Certificate.
  • An Australian Driver's License and comprehensive car insurance.

Key Skills:

  • Qualification in disability, mental health, or a related field (desired).
  • 2+ years of experience in behavioral support.
  • Clear understanding of professional boundaries and restrictive practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
  • Current certifications and clearances.
