Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and culturally sensitive professional to support Aboriginal children and families.
About the RoleThis role is critical in promoting cultural safety for clients, particularly Aboriginal children, who require early intervention responses.
- The successful applicant will work collaboratively with Child Protection, Community Service Organisations, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to develop and implement effective case plans that prioritise the child's connection to culture and community.
- In this position, you will identify risks to children, articulating these verbally and in writing to various stakeholders, including parents, children, and other professionals.
The role supports self-determination for Aboriginal families, focusing on maintaining continuity of family and community relationships and the child's cultural identity.
Key Responsibilities- Work confidently with Aboriginal children and families, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative, policy, and practice requirements.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Child Protection and Community Service Organisations, to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Identify opportunities for early intervention and develop strategies to support Aboriginal children and families.
- Promote family engagement and support cultural safety through effective communication and relationship-building.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of Aboriginal cultures, and a passion for delivering high-quality services that respect the autonomy of Aboriginal communities.
RequirementsTo be considered for this role, you must have:
- A degree in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Indigenous Studies).
- Significant experience working with Aboriginal children and families, preferably in a Child Protection or Community Services context.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing effective case plans and engaging with stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to cultural safety, self-determination, and community-driven practices.
