About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Aboriginal Cultural Support and Awareness Specialist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of Aboriginal children and families.

Job Description

The key to our work is creating equal opportunities for all Victorians. Our diverse teams collaborate across various community settings to develop safe, respected and valued lives.

  • We prioritize areas like child protection, housing, disability, family violence prevention, multicultural affairs, LGBTQI+ equality and veterans' support.
  • Our roles particularly benefit disadvantaged and vulnerable communities, with thousands of Victorians benefiting from our efforts each year.

This role enables Child Protection practitioners to create culturally sensitive plans, ensuring that Aboriginal children remain connected to their community and maintain a strong sense of self-identity.

Culturally centred practice is at the heart of this role, focusing on the child's connection to family and community. You will work collaboratively with Aboriginal families, Elders, foster carers, practitioners, agencies, services and the broader community to achieve optimal outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Providing vital cultural expertise and guidance to Child Protection practitioners.
  2. Collaborating with Aboriginal families and stakeholders to ensure shared understanding and timely action.
  3. Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to promote the well-being of Aboriginal children and families.
  4. Sharing knowledge and exchanging critical information with stakeholders to ensure optimal outcomes.

This role supports progression of self-determination reforms, enabling Aboriginal children to thrive in their communities.
