Leading a safety-first culture is crucial for success in the civil construction industry. This role requires an experienced Health & Safety Manager to develop and implement effective safety strategies that align with business objectives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in occupational health and safety, with expertise in managing integrated HSE management systems and documentation. They will also be skilled in overseeing OHS audits, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.

This senior leadership role involves partnering with cross-functional teams to embed safety early in projects and maintain company-wide safety reporting systems. The successful candidate will drive improvements to performance metrics, lead indicators, and safety outcomes.

A key aspect of this position is supporting accreditation and compliance efforts, ensuring all legislative requirements are met. Strong leadership and coaching skills are essential for influencing at all levels and representing the organization externally on OHS matters.

About the Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Championing a zero-harm approach and leading visible safety leadership initiatives;
  • Managing, maintaining, and improving integrated HSE management systems and documentation;
  • Oversight of OHS audits, incident investigations, and root cause analyses;
  • Leading the development and delivery of training and mentoring programs to enhance safety capability;
  • Partnering with teams across Precontracts, Operations, and Delivery to embed safety early;
  • Maintenance of company-wide safety reporting systems, legal, and risk registers;
  • Driving improvements to performance metrics, lead indicators, and safety outcomes;
  • Supporting accreditation and compliance efforts, ensuring all legislative requirements are met;
  • Representing the organization externally on OHS matters — with clients, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
About You

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field;
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS (or equivalent recognized qualification);
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior HSE role within civil construction or infrastructure projects;
  • Expert-level knowledge of WHS Act 2011, relevant codes of practice, and standards;
  • Proven ability to lead HSE systems, investigations, audits, and risk assessments;
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills with the ability to influence at all levels;
  • Experience working with major infrastructure contractors, government clients, and subcontractors;
  • Confidence to represent the organization in audits, forums, and industry discussions.
