About Adolescent and Family Counselling Role

The role of an Adolescent and Family Counsellor is to provide assessment, case management, individual and group counselling, treatment planning and support to young people aged 13-18 and their families.

  • Conduct thorough assessments and make clinical recommendations to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients.
  • Develop comprehensive case treatment plans in collaboration with the young person and relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide regular individual counselling sessions and brief family interventions to address specific issues and needs.
  • Deliver case management services including client appointments, liaison with aftercare services, follow-up of client information and organisation of client medications.
  • Facilitate planned and impromptu group sessions to promote social skills, coping strategies and emotional well-being.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the residential team to implement agreed care plans and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Liaising with family and support networks regarding treatment progress and providing updates on client developments.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records to inform future treatment decisions.
  • Acting as a clinical leader within the program, providing guidance and support to colleagues and promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications such as psychology or counselling are essential for this role.
  • Experience working with young people aged 13-18 years old is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to a Therapeutic Community model is also required.
