About the Role
The Payroll Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of employee compensation, while also contributing to the organization's compliance with relevant legislative requirements and award determinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and maintain accurate payroll records for staff, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and award determinations.
- Assist in the compilation and distribution of pay for staff on a fortnightly basis, handling approximately 1,000 employees.
- Respond to payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Produce accurate and timely fortnightly and monthly payroll reports in collaboration with the Payroll Accountant.
- Provide ad-hoc reports as requested by management.
- Issue statements of service as required.
- Stay up-to-date with legislative changes related to wage and salary taxation.
- Contribute to ensuring HammondCare meets legislative requirements through the deduction and remittance of PAYG tax, Superannuation Guarantee, and other payroll deductions.
- Maintain payroll compliance with relevant award and agreement determinations.
- Process new employee records in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensure employee leave balances are up-to-date.
- Oversee overpayment recovery actions and documentation.
- Ensure employee electronic pay files are up-to-date to support payroll system data.
- Collaborate with other team members to deliver a professional service to staff.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with external suppliers, including payroll software providers.
About You
- Commitment to aligning with HammondCare's Christian mission and values.
- Tertiary degree in finance or a related field is highly regarded, or significant industry experience is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a high-volume payroll processing role.
- Strong administrative and MS Office skills.
- Proficiency in computerized payroll and time-attendance systems, including ICHRIS.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a large team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- High attention to detail and accurate data entry.
- Empathy and patience.
