We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Chef to lead our culinary team at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.

About the Role

The successful candidate will oversee all kitchen operations, including food and labour costs, budgeting, and staff management. They will also be responsible for creating seasonally changing menus and producing corporate catering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage kitchen operations, including food production and staff supervision
  • Develop and implement menus, ensuring high-quality dishes and efficient food production
  • Manage food and labour costs, and maintain accurate records
  • Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing kitchen team
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef-Venues to achieve business objectives

Requirements

  • Qualifications in Cookery – Diploma level preferred
  • Minimum of three years in a leadership role, ideally from a hotel background
  • Proven ability to lead by example and foster a creative and organized environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Motivated and driven, with a passion for delivering exceptional results
