Peer Support Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Peer Support Specialist within a multidisciplinary team at a prominent healthcare organization.

As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a key role in providing mutual support, information, and practical assistance to individuals who are part of our team.

You will be working closely with a diverse group of people, including consumers, carers/families, health professionals, community agencies, and organizations.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Utilize your own lived experience as a consumer who has experienced mental health issues and has used mental health services to support others.
  • Provide emotional support to individuals and promote well-being, choice, self-determination, and greater opportunities for individuals to participate in their own treatment and recovery.
  • Establish strong, effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively in everyday, non-clinical language.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the need to be sensitive to the needs of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Participate in relevant training and supervision programs for peer support workers.

**Selection Criteria**

  • Lived and/or living experience of mental health issues and has used mental health services.
  • Recognition and understanding of own personal experience and ability to use this appropriately to support others.
  • Ability to use own experience to inspire hope and belief in recovery.
  • Completion of Intentional Peer Support (IPS) training or similar qualification.
