Homewares and Furniture Category Growth Specialist

Established as a well-respected wholesaler and retailer, our client has consistently demonstrated year-on-year growth while remaining customer-centric. Driven to achieve results, they source products across homeware, kitchenware, tech, and appliances, focusing on continually finding trending and appealing items for their customers.
In this 12-month maternity leave contract role (with potential to become permanent), you will collaborate with another Buyer to drive and grow specific product categories, achieving forecasted revenue to deliver sales growth. As a key member of the team, you will work across various products like homewares and furniture, leveraging your ability to identify key growth opportunities and manage programs such as special buys.
This opportunity is ideal for someone who can take ownership in establishing seasonal range plans and product selection/sourcing strategies for various categories, working closely with suppliers to deliver top-quality products. Key responsibilities include:
- Seasonal Range Planning: Develop and implement seasonal range plans and product selection/sourcing strategies for private label and known brands.
- Trend Analysis and Customer Demand: Analyze trends and customer demand to develop and manage range selection for various categories, ensuring competitive pricing strategies to drive category growth.
- Sourcing and Buying Strategy: Use data and insights to determine sourcing, buying, and import strategies.
- Negotiations: Negotiate product prices, volumes, and terms with overseas suppliers.
- Reporting and Financial Management: Manage and analyze reporting and financial plans to achieve margin, sales revenue, and profit goals.
- Range Reviews and Post-Seasonal Analysis: Prepare range reviews and post-seasonal analysis, presenting key findings to the management team on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Promotional Planning: Determine profitable promotional plans for the business.
- Stock Management: Manage stock, aged inventory, and performance targets.
- Trend Monitoring and Competitor Analysis: Monitor trends globally and locally, as well as competitor activity.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- 3 years of experience in category management or buying.
- Ideal experience working within homewares, furniture, or appliances.
- Experience with NetSuite or similar tools is desirable.
- Intermediate Excel skills.
- An entrepreneurial mindset that seeks out opportunities.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
- Trend savvy – you know what customers want.
