Lead Connections Planning Engineer - A Compelling Opportunity

Job Description
  • Network Planning Expertise: Proactively plan the electricity sub-transmission network to accommodate embedded generators, storage, and large load connections, ensuring seamless integration and maximum utilisation.
  • Comprehensive Assessment: Conduct thorough network planning processes to assess capabilities, identify emerging limitations, and address network security, capacity, reliability, system strength, and quality of supply issues.
  • Strategic Development: Develop strategies to maximise sub-transmission network utilisation, increasing load and generation connections while minimising constraints.
  • Ongoing Monitoring: Regularly monitor 66kV generator (>1.5MW) compliance and initiate necessary actions to address non-compliances.
  • Investment Planning: Produce network investment plans and proposals for transmission and sub-transmission networks, including optimised major station rebuild programs and network augmentation initiatives.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and coaching to other engineers within the team as a registered professional engineer.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Degree: Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Industry Experience: At least several years of experience in the energy sector, preferably in utilities.
  • Technical Knowledge: Advanced expertise in electricity network planning, grid connection processes, and end-to-end grid connection requirements.
  • NER Understanding: Strong knowledge of Chapter 5 and Chapter 5A of the National Electricity Rules (NER) and its application to network design and customer performance standards.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to problem-solve, think critically, and find innovative solutions.
