The Role:

This position is pivotal in cultivating a robust Risk Culture within Growth Operations by offering leadership and expertise in risk management. The focus will be on the ongoing evaluation of processes, policies, and external factors that may influence the department's risk profile and appetite.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Growth Operations leadership team to implement A&G's risk management strategy and develop an annual control testing program, which includes monitoring agreed actions to enhance the control environment continually. Furthermore, the role will drive the ongoing enhancement of control testing methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate informed decision-making through proactive risk management engagement with colleagues, customers, industry stakeholders, and the community.
  • Enhance and report on internal risk controls, detection, and response capabilities.
  • Conduct research and analysis on complex performance and risk management issues in line with insurance industry regulations.
  • Lead the execution and ongoing application of A&G's risk management framework and systems.
  • Perform risk assessments related to data protection, supplier management, and risk management initiatives.
  • Serve as an internal expert, providing risk and compliance guidance, expertise, and training.
  • Support leaders in the completion and review of team Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) and divisional Business Continuity Plans (BCPs), offering expert advice as needed.
  • Develop an annual work program in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Prioritize the execution of essential risk activities within the department.
  • Monitor the implementation of agreed management actions.
  • Analyze data to identify potential and emerging risks, creating a targeted controls assurance program.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of control systems to identify non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare management reporting packs and Board documentation.
  • Plan and execute a schedule of control reviews.
  • Design and implement a best practice control testing operating model.

  • Excellent negotiation skills, ensuring stakeholder obligations are met while maintaining fairness for customers and employees.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to convey information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Effective time management skills, showcasing the ability to prioritize tasks and organize workload efficiently.
  • Analytical skills, capable of navigating a complex environment and making informed recommendations based on data and regulatory knowledge.
  • Customer service orientation, committed to delivering quality outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Change management skills, with the ability to recognize and support the need for change while anticipating its impact on teams and individuals.
  • In-depth understanding of current and emerging regulatory, commercial, technological, and operational trends in Australia.
  • Familiarity with General Insurance in Australia is advantageous, particularly regarding Licensee/Authorised Representative/Referrer relationships.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the financial services sector, preferably within insurance.
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Tertiary qualifications in finance, risk management, commerce, or a related field.
  • A collaborative and consultative approach, with a comprehensive understanding of risk management principles and practices.
  • Experience with risk management and compliance systems.
