At the forefront of decision support tools, this role seeks to harmonize human control with scalable artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

Based in Brisbane, successful applicants will be expected to work on-site regularly, making remote appointments unlikely.

The lab, led by Professor Tim Miller, aims to empower expert decision-makers by leveraging AI to tackle real-world challenges.

With a focus on real-world impact, human-centered design, and collaboration, the lab fosters a culture of respect and wellbeing.

  • Research: Contribute to impactful research in human-centered AI, publishing in prestigious outlets such as AAAI, IJCAI, NeurIPS, CVPR, EMNLP, CHI, CSCW, FAccT, or similar. Develop and manage a research program in human-centered decision support using AI; collaborate on projects; secure funding; employ best-practice methodologies; and participate in project discussions.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage personnel, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
  • Citizenship and Service: Establish partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative tasks, support colleagues, and uphold university values.

This is a research-focused position.
