Human-Centered AI Research Fellowship

This is a research-focused opportunity to join an interdisciplinary collaboration environment. Our team emphasizes real-world impact, human-centered design, and a culture of collaboration, respect, and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will have the chance to create the vision and direction of our laboratory, working closely with Professor Tim Miller to shape the future of decision support tools that balance human control with scalable artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Research: Produce quality and impactful research in human-centered AI. Establish and manage a research program in human-centered decision support using AI; collaborate on projects; seek funding; use best-practice methodologies; and participate in project discussions.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage personnel, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative tasks, support colleagues, and uphold university values.

Requirements include:

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in human-centered AI or a closely related area.
  • Evidence of human-centered AI publications in reputed refereed journals and presentations at conferences such as AAAI, IJCAI, NeurIPS, CVPR, EMNLP, CHI, CSCW, FAccT, or similar.
  • Experience in conducting human behavioral experiments or human-centered field studies.
  • Demonstrated experience in machine learning (e.g., deep learning for image processing, NLP/LLMs).
  • Demonstrated software engineering/development abilities and use of software engineering tools.
