The Eye Health Nurse Co-ordinator role plays a pivotal part in Ophthalmic Nursing, providing clinical leadership in the Outpatient Department.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing clinical assessment, coordination, and case management of outpatients in collaboration with Ophthalmology Consultants.
- Ensuring safe delivery of high-quality patient-centered care adhering to Policy, hospital protocols, and procedures relating to clinical practice and environmental safety.
- Developing and delivering evidence-based education and training resources for nursing staff providing direct clinical support and supervision.
- Initiating, coordinating, and evaluating continuous quality improvement projects to reduce clinical variation in patient care delivery.
- Liaising with the Nurse Unit Manager and team members ensuring effective communication regarding planned and unplanned changes in patient and clinic management.
- Providing clinical support to the Ophthalmology Registrar before and after ophthalmic surgery.
This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
To be successful, applicants must hold current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APRHA) and possess postgraduate tertiary qualifications in Ophthalmic Nursing or be working towards same.
Additional requirements include a minimum of three years postgraduate nursing experience with two years of clinical experience within the specialty of Ophthalmic Nursing.
