**About the Role**
An exciting opportunity exists to lead the City Policy team to provide maternity cover for 12 months. We are seeking an experienced professional with experience in leading strategic planning projects and planning scheme amendments, an eye for detail and the leadership skills to keep the team’s diverse projects on track.
Reporting to the Executive Manager City Planning and Sustainability, you will oversee development of the Port Phillip Planning Scheme and Planning Scheme Amendments Program, Council’s Heritage Program and a diverse range of strategic planning projects to achieve Council’s urban planning goals and objectives.
Fixed term 12 months (Maternity Leave Contract) - Full time Role
**Duties**:

- Lead the co-ordination and on-going development and maintenance of the Port Phillip Planning Scheme including planning scheme amendments and provide oversight of Council’s Heritage Program.
- Oversee development of Council’s land use and development strategies, policies and guidelines including Structure Plans and Urban Design Frameworks for key activity / renewal precincts, and strategies for managing complex inner urban planning issues.
- Lead the City Policy Team including preparation and delivery of work programs and budget, aligned with Council objectives.
- Actively promote a positive team and service culture, through personal leadership, coaching, mentoring and the performance assessment and professional development of staff.
- Provide a high level of professional planning expertise to the Executive Manager City Planning and Sustainability, Executive Leadership Team, other internal Departments, Council and the community.

**Skills and Experience**
- A relevant tertiary qualification in urban planning or a closely related discipline and significant relevant professional experience, preferably in a local government setting.
- Extensive knowledge of the Victorian Planning System, Victorian Planning Provisions and statutory processes including the preparation of amendments and administration of planning schemes.
- A proven track record in delivering major projects, balancing complex issues and competing priorities, ideally within an inner urban context.
- Significant experience working in strategic land use planning, including experience in developing urban policy and strategy, heritage planning, structure plans and urban design frameworks.
- Highly developed skills in communicating complex ideas and engaging with a range of stakeholders, expert negotiation skills and a proven ability to influence outcomes;
- Experience in leading and managing professional staff, with demonstrated skills in effective team leadership and staff development.
