**The opportunity**:
We are seeking a Data Governance & Policy Officer to join the Project Management team at Centre for Population Genomics (CPG). The CPG is committed to supporting the responsible, progressive, inclusive and safe sharing of genomic and health data to drive medical research and improve human health. This individual will play a prominent role in shaping the CPG’s approach to genomic data governance and will be responsible for driving the implementation and maintenance of the CPG’s data management policy, practices and processes.

This individual will be responsible for taking a proactive lead on all matters concerning Data Governance at CPG and our governing institutes. This individual will ensure that the CPG’s policies and practices reflect our data management values (respecting participants, protecting genomic and health information and data sharing) and that we comply with relevant institutional policies, national regulations and international data sharing frameworks.

The role will require engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and have high visibility across our governing institutions. The individual will enjoy working within a challenging operational environment, conducting activities across two institutes and with local and international collaborators. As such, this individual will relish the challenge of developing practical and efficient solutions accepted by varied stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical part within the CPG’s Project Management team to support the delivery of one of the largest population genomics initiatives in Australia that will shape the future of genomic medicine in Australia and deliver global impact.

**Your responsibilities include**:
Driving the development of the CPG’s Data Management Policy, ensuring it addresses all relevant aspects related to the management of sensitive genomic and health information
Engaging, consulting, negotiating and communicating with key stakeholders at our governing institutes and across CPG teams and leadership
Designing, project managing and delivering data governance and policy solutions which meet business requirements and deliver tangible benefits from ethical, regulatory and operational perspectives
Ensuring operational compliance with regulatory bodies and our governing institute requirements for data management, including reporting requirements for data breaches and other incidents
Fostering a culture of trustworthy data governance and a sound level of understanding of privacy and data governance at CPG by planning, developing and implementing training initiatives for a multi-disciplinary staff group

**About you**:
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or significant previous experience within relevant environments such as health data and policy, data privacy, data ethics, and/or data governance
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to cultivate productive working relationships and effectively liaise, negotiate, consult and influence various stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to effectively contribute to policy development, implementation and process re-engineering in an innovative and informed manner
(Desired) Passion and enthusiasm for the implementation of genomic medicine and/or healthcare innovation
(Desired) Experience with the governance of genomic, health or other sensitive data in a human research setting
