- Level 4, full-time appointments on a fixed term basis for 18 months
- Base salary range: $68,640 - $72,913 p.a. plus 17% superannuation (3.3% increase to salary from July 1st 2023)

**About the team**

The new Deep Sea Research Centre is housed within the School of Biological Sciences - a large, multidisciplinary School with research and teaching focused on understanding and conserving life on Earth. Understanding and communicating the vulnerabilities, adaptability and resilience of plants and animals on land and in our rivers and oceans helps to better value and protect the biodiversity around us. The School of Biological Sciences is a large, multidisciplinary School with over 80 high-caliber staff delivering world-class education and research programs to approximately 600 undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students and is responsible for the supervision of ~100 PhD students. The School is research-intensive with expertise in the disciplines of Computational Biology, Ecology & Conservation, Evolutionary Biology, Neuroscience and Science Communication.

**About the opportunity**

As the appointee you will, under general direction, deploy, maintain, and service deep-sea scientific equipment including baited video landers and long-term observatories. This position also requires you to plan, mobilise, and execute offshore fieldtrips and undertake basic analyses of collected data. These analyses require logging of species diversity, abundance, behaviour and other biotic and abiotic factors. Training in the identification of deep-sea species and operation/servicing of deep-sea technologies will be provided.

**To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate**:

- Relevant tertiary qualification.
- Relevant experience in planning, mobilising, and executing field trips on research vessels.
- Experience in the use of underwater cameras and other subsea technology used in ecological surveys.
- Proficiency in a range of technical skills including the ability to fabricate, modify, maintain and service underwater scientific equipment.
- Experience identifying species and annotating underwater video footage using EventMeasure software.
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, problem solve and work productively as part of a team.
