**The Team**

The Parliamentary, Governance and Assurance section is a multi-functional team providing advice and support to the AEC. The section reports to the Deputy Electoral Commissioner (Chief Operating Officer) and is responsible for the following functions:

- Ministerial and Parliamentary Services: this team manages the exchange of information between the AEC, its portfolio ministers, and the Parliament.
- Governance: the governance team is a new initiative that aims to bring together the secretariat functions for the AEC’s key governance committees. The team will provide oversight and assurance of the governance committee functions.
- Internal Audit: the team administers the AEC's Assurance Framework and delivers independent assurance. The Framework sets out the AEC's approach to assurance, adopting the 'Lines of Assurance' model.

**The Opportunity**

The Assistant Director, Governance and Assurance supports the Director in establishing contemporary arrangements for the AEC, including administering the AEC’s Assurance Framework, leading the review of the governance framework, developing action plans for maturation, and implementing resultant improvements aimed at supporting the agency in meeting its long-term goals and objectives.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for undertaking complex and/or sensitive work, under broad direction, utilising expertise in governance and assurance to establish and implement appropriate arrangements.

The role is also responsible for leading and developing the Agency’s internal audit function and services, including overseeing the AEC’s Assurance Framework. You will lead and manage a small team to deliver effective and efficient Audit Committee secretariat support.

The role will also manage engagement with the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO).

To excel you’ll have:

- A well-developed understanding of governance, audit and assurance frameworks for the Commonwealth Government.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff while developing capabilities and driving positive change while embedding professionalism.
- Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to understand strategic priorities and stakeholder expectations.
- Confidence and ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and negotiate with team members, business areas and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
- A demonstrated ability to work autonomously and a strong commitment to working harmoniously within a team to achieve positive results and support the AEC’s strategic direction.
- The ability to remain positive and respond to pressure in a calm manner, while committing energy and drive to see that goals are achieved.
