The People & Culture team, to realise Garvan’s ambitious vision for Garvan 2030, strives to make it easy to do great science through a continuous improvement agenda, enabling leaders to recruit and invest in our world-class people and foster a diverse and inclusive culture that supports Garvan’s values.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The People & Culture Science Partner works closely with an assigned group of Garvan People Leaders to drive an improved and sustainable high-performance culture via the development and implementation of strategic people initiatives aligned to the specific needs of the team and broader organisation.
Plan, develop and deliver value add people initiatives that have a direct impact on achievement of Garvan’s strategic priorities. This may include leadership development and coaching, workforce planning, driving performance excellence, engagement initiatives, reward and recognition, inclusion and balance, and others. We are a tight knit team, have regular team events as well as have an open flow of ideas and brainstorming sessions. We keep each other accountable, work through any issues that arise together and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve processes
**Salary**: $120,000 + 11% super + salary packaging (negotiable based on experience)

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The key responsibilities include:
CLIENT PARTNERSHIP- Work with assigned client groups to co-create and deliver people initiatives aligned to Garvan’s Strategic People Plan.- Build relationships with leaders as a trusted adviser that solves people challenges. Establish and maintain influential relationships with clients to help guide positive employee interactions and outcomes. Regular attendance at client leadership meetings.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT- Facilitate the development of leaders required to create the desired Garvan leadership portfolio of the future. Deliver talent and development strategies to enable this including influencing through coaching, challenging behaviours, and environmental factors.
PEOPLE & CULTURE SERVICE DELIVERY- Bring strategies to life through the delivery of innovative people solutions, via design and delivery of creative people practices and challenging current state. This may include leadership development and coaching, workforce planning, driving performance excellence, engagement initiatives, reward and recognition, inclusion and balance, and others.- Design and implement organisational models that enhance business performance and effectiveness (e.g., for team establishment on receipt of a new grant).- Actively engage in the recruitment process where strategically important.- Facilitate talent reviews, succession planning and ongoing talent development.- Access, interpret and leverage organisational data and industry standards to facilitate business decisions.- Assist people leaders with employee performance management issues and providing advice to achieve positive outcomes.- Undertake a range of HR projects including drafting and/or reviewing policies and procedures, implementation of new systems and technology etc.- Develop and deliver information and training sessions for staff.- Grievance matters contact - respond to grievance matters and conflict according to Garvan policy.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT- Work as a catalyst for change, identifying people practice improvement opportunities and partnering with leaders to formulate people related business cases for change.- Continually challenge current state where opportunities for improvement are identified, constantly striving for an environment of continuous improvement.
ABOUT YOU
The key skills and experience include:
- Significant experience (ideally 3+ years) in a HR Business Partnering role or equivalent.- Tertiary qualified in HR, Psychology or equivalent.- Strategic business partnering/ consulting experience.- Experience in HR functional service models resulting in strong business outcomes.- Other relevant business and industry experience.- Significant experience working with senior stakeholders.- Ability to provide management coaching.- Ability to multitask and navigate competing priorities while persuading business leaders to actively engage.- Sound knowledge of Australian employment law and experi
