About us
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system. The department's Youth Justice (YJ) service provides programs and resources to assist these young offenders to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to manage their lives effectively without further offending. Through supervision, offending related programs and linkages to appropriate support services, the youth justice service promotes opportunities for rehabilitation and contributes to the reduction of crime in the community.
Youth Justice is responsible for the delivery of a new suite of Youth Offending Programs (YOP) across the system. Commencing 1 February 2019, YJ in partnership with Caraniche (service provider) rolled out new criminogenic and psychosocial programs across YJ (community and custody).
About the role
Reporting to the YJ Regional General Manager, the Program Coordinator is responsible for working with the YJ teams to identify suitable young people to participate in the programs. This role is also responsible for liaising with relevant YJ and Caraniche stakeholders regarding referrals, appointments, and attendance of participants. This position will play a lead role in documenting and communicating risks, barriers or issues that may impact the operation of the programs, with the overall aim of ensuring participants successfully complete the program.

**To be successful in this role you will have**:

- Demonstrated understanding of the Youth Justice service, including the case management and support services provided to young people.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues or needs of young people who are appearing before, or have been sentenced by, the Children's Court, Children's Koori Court and adult criminal courts and who have been placed on youth justice supervised orders.
- An understanding of the youth justice system, particularly the principles and philosophy underpinning relevant legislation and the Victorian Youth Justice program.
- An understanding of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and associated policies and guidelines developed for use by youth justice workers.

A relevant qualification in Social Work or a Diploma in Community Services Work or equivalent is desirable.
A full driver's licence is required due to the need to respond to emergencies across the state at short notice and outside business hours as required.
A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required and will need to be provided prior to commencement of employment by the applicant. Currency will need to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
