Located on the lands of the Bidiagal Clan of the Dharawal Nation (Randwick, NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan. The Role

Reporting to the Business Development Manager, the Corporate Partnerships Business Development Advisor aims to develop and grow revenue across Partnerships and Philanthropy by engaging new prospects. The role contributes to the growth of partnerships, corporate donors, and philanthropy to the wider portfolio, in line with the Partnerships and Philanthropy strategy and broader Funding and Partnerships strategy. The advisor plays a key role in developing new revenue, strategic partnerships, pro bono and in-kind support opportunities. This is a relationship-based development role focused on building genuine connections with individuals and organisations by understanding their social impact goals. Relationships with donors are critical to the growth, sustainability, and success of the Institute. The role requires emotional intelligence, compassion, empathy and professionalism, and the ability to inspire contributions and investment in the long-term strategic goals of the Institute.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Business Development: Assist the Business Development Manager to identify, attract and retain new revenue through building long-term, genuine and engaging relationships.
  • Assist the Business Development Manager to achieve long-term financial and strategic targets for the Institute.
  • Relationship Management: Attend and lead prospect meetings to build relationships, identify opportunities and cultivate long-term donors that support the Institute's strategic goals.
  • Proactively identify and maintain strategic business relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain strong internal relationships across all areas of the Institute to ensure successful funding outcomes.
  • Leverage internal stakeholder relationships to access new audiences, increase engagement and deepen ongoing relationships.
  • Internal Coordination: Work with the Business Development Manager to triage new requests, schedule meetings and assign next steps; liaise with other departments to manage opportunities; onboard new partners and donors with their account manager; leverage relationships to facilitate new revenue opportunities.
  • Administration and Database Management: Ensure accurate entry and updating of records; work with the F&P data team to extract reports and develop insights; report quarterly acquisition pipeline metrics; manage enquiries; keep contact information up to date.
  • Planning and Reporting: Undertake market research of business sectors; develop bespoke revenue opportunities; stay informed of NFP sector trends; support Institute events; develop knowledge of priorities and funding needs; pursue networking opportunities.
  • Work Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and Institute policies; report hazards as needed.

Essential Criteria

Skills & Experience Required

  • Up to 3 years' experience in a partnership or sales role with relationship management and revenue targets.
  • Excellent networking, consultation, liaison and negotiation skills with the ability to identify and establish new business.
  • Experience in project and time management and ability to prioritise deadlines.
  • Ability to confidently present to various audience groups in an engaging manner.
  • High attention to detail with accurate record management skills.
  • Proven track record in achieving revenue targets and income growth.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills with professionalism and empathy.
  • Creative problem solver with a can-do attitude.
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and CRM experience.
Desirable Criteria
  • Previous experience in non-profit, medical research and/or event management.
  • Degree in Business, Psychology, Management, Marketing or related discipline.
