We are seeking a General Manager – Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) based at our Head Office in Truganina. Reporting to the CEO, this position plays a crucial role in ensuring the delivery and leadership of safety initiatives while fostering a strong safety culture across multi-sites and providing executive oversight to the HSE function across the Company.

As General Manager of HSE for CDC Victoria, you will be responsible for providing high-level advice and support to senior leaders and depot managers to effectively manage environment and sustainability initiatives as well as reduce the risk of injury and illness at work to all staff, contractors, and the community, while ensuring compliance with work health safety and related legislative instruments.

You will drive a safety culture through effective communication, collaboration, training and development across all workplaces and site locations. You will ensure the integrity of the quality management system ensuring a balance between strategic and operational outcomes.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support and drive the National HSEQ strategy, track progress against strategy and propose refinements as required.
  • Support and utilise the HSEQ systems that are in place and understood to deliver CDC VIC (and Australia) business objectives in line with our accreditation and legislative requirements.
  • Support the Risk Management Framework and coordinate management of the risks with the CDC VIC Executive Team.
  • Demonstrate due diligence and leadership in WHS by understanding the nature of the company's operations and the associated hazards and risks.
  • Maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Monitor and review HSEQ performance in line with the National Risk Management Framework.
  • Lead, develop and contribute to establishment and maintenance of ISO standards relevant to HSE environment.
  • In conjunction with the General Manager Quality & Compliance, review and audit active projects to ensure compliance with contractual and management system requirements.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Degree qualification in safety management or relevant certification combined with experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act, Regulations and Codes of Practice. Familiarity with the Bus Safety Act would be advantageous.
  • Ability to identify safety issues and prepare a comprehensive plan to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in a Leadership / Senior Management capacity with sound knowledge of contemporary Health and Safety practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills along with a demonstrated ability to establish productive partnerships and working relationships to maximise business outcomes.
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
  • Personal initiative and attention to detail and a high level of organisational, planning and time management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously within a complex, fast-paced, and challenging environment.
  • Pragmatic, solution orientated and energetic.
  • Exceptional communication, reporting and interpersonal skills.
