About the role:

Merri-bek Libraries are about more than just books. Our libraries are vibrant neighbourhood hubs offering social interaction, cultural activities and learning opportunities. We are seeking a Librarian who is passionate about providing a high-quality service to our diverse community.


In performing this role, your day-to-day responsibilities will be to engage with our diverse community to provide great customer service and assist with library initiatives to bridge the digital divide.

You will supervise and support other team members; and develop, plan, promote and deliver reader development and lifelong learning programs for the community.

You will also be working with a programs team to deliver community engagement outcomes across Merri-bek City Council.

Skills and experience require to perform the role:

  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and supervisory skills
  • Ability to coach, supervise and motivate staff
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement
  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute and deliver programs within agreed timeframes
  • Fluency in a community language is desirable
  • Eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
  • A current Working with Children Check
