About the role

  • This is a great opportunity for a social worker wanting to further develop their skills and knowledge working within the mental health practice context.
  • The role of an Inpatient Mental Health Social Worker within HNE focuses on psychosocial assessment and intervention, collaboration with key stakeholders, person centred care and family inclusive practice is consistent across the service.
  • Social Workers promote ways of working that are strengths based and trauma informed, and a holistic approach to understanding the experiences of service users.
  • Work collaborative withthe multidisciplinary team to deliver provide holistic mental health services
  • You will be supported by the Service Manager and Senior Social Worker in the team you are working, along with the Head of Profession for HNE MH Social Work.
  • You will have access regular clinical supervision and opportunities for professional development.
  • Team work is highly valued within the service and provides you with ongoing support and supervision to assist with your orientation and development in this role.
  • Become part of the Mental Health Service network, using the expertise of other local staff to facilitate discussion and learning.

Where you'll be working

  • The Mental Health Unit for Older People (MHUOP) is a 22 bed unit inclusive of 6 High Dependency beds that operates 24 hours a day.
  • The MHUOP supports and provides specialist treatment to people aged 65 years and over with mental illness and provides support for physical health related issues.
  • The team consists of two Consultant Psychiatrists, two Social Workers, a Psychologist, a Nurse Unit Manager, Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses.

Requirements:

  • Must hold as a minimum a bachelor degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer

About you

  • We are looking for Social Workers with an interest in working within the mental health practice setting.
  • You will need to have well developed interpersonal skills, skills in conducting psychosocial assessments and developing intervention plans with consumers, and work in a way that demonstrates a commitment to person centred and family inclusive practice.
  • Have a passion for patient advocacy and supporting patients and their families and carers to ensure clinical interventions and service delivery processes are understood
  • Actively look at ways to improve the service you provide, and show initiative in undertaking projects and quality improvement
