About the role:


We are seeking a passionate, innovative and experienced public art curator and project manager to join our dynamic arts and culture team.


The Public Art Officer role is a key position within the Arts Merri-bek team and leads the curation and creation of our temporary and permanent public art program across the municipality.

The role works across Council to create excellent public art outcomes in Council developments, urban design projects and open spaces.

It also manages RenuWall, our mural-based graffiti prevention program.

Key aspects of the role include managing the ongoing maintenance of artworks within the Public Art Collection, contributing to the review and development of Council's approach to art in public spaces and supporting the development of local visual artists and arts collectives.


With a new Arts and Culture Strategy to be released later in the year and a community that is keenly interested in public art, it's an exciting time to join our team.


Skills and experience require to perform the role:

  • Specialist knowledge and demonstrated experience in Public Art activity planning, development and implementation; including experience in project management of public arts projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate both staff and contractors, including a range of artists to achieve high quality projects that engage community.
  • Experience in undertaking successful community consultation processes, engaging the community including diverse communities into conversation about public art.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing and executing marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing, implementing and overseeing Risk Management Plans and OH&S Procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure funding, manage budgets and write reports.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritise tasks and work to tight deadlines.
  • Tertiary qualifications in the Arts, Community Cultural Development or other relevant discipline desirable
