Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment and Onboarding:
    • Provide a best practice end-to-end recruitment service to the organization.
    • Oversee the onboarding and offboarding of employees.
    • Deliver a staff induction service for new employees, including administration and delivery of the Corporate Orientation Program.
  • Contract Management:
    • Prepare contracts, contract extensions, and any employment letters.
  • Employee Relations:
    • Foster a positive workplace culture by addressing employee concerns, conducting regular check-ins, and promoting open communication.
    • Assist the Manager People & Culture in supporting managers to resolve employee relations issues as they arise.
  • Training and Development:
    • Administer the organization's training program, including identification of training needs, selection of training courses and providers, and related administration.
  • HR Administration:
    • Maintain accurate employee records and prepare reports on HR metrics as required.
    • Assist in the administration of the organization's Salary System.
    • Assist in the coordination and implementation of employee benefits programs.
    • Assist with and contribute to the development of Human Resources policies and procedures.
    • Undertake statistical analysis and assist with special projects relating to Human Resources matters.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Work with key stakeholders to ensure compliance with employment legislation, policies, and procedures.
    • Ensure actions contribute to a safe and healthy workplace, using and maintaining appropriate safety clothing and personal protective equipment.
    • Report injuries, accidents, incidents, and near misses in the work area and on the corrective actions taken to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Customer Service and Ethics:
    • Contribute to improved customer service and organizational effectiveness by acting ethically, with honesty and fairness.
    • Provide exceptional customer service by listening to the needs of each customer and acting in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.
    • Identify, assess, and manage all risks associated with the function.
    • Comply with EEO, the principles for a culturally diverse society, and organizational policies at all times.

Key Result Areas:

  • Recruitment process conducted in a timely manner.
  • Equal access by staff to training program and achievement of organization's training goals.
  • Training delivered in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Project and reporting deadlines met.

Selection Criteria:
Essential:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Human Resources or a related field (e.g., Training).
  • Previous work experience in a similar role in either the public or private sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and judgment in resolving problems.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and set priorities to meet key deadlines.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Access.
  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety and Equal Employment Opportunity legislation.
  • Understanding of the confidential nature of HR matters.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of Local Government Operations.
  • Knowledge of the Local Government (State) Award.
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality customer service to internal customers.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
