How will I help?

The Group Investigations (GI) team provides investigative and intelligence services to business units across the Westpac Group.

This includes the investigation of internal (staff malpractice) and serious misconduct incidents inclusive of all Whistleblower investigations and provision of thematic fraud and conduct themes arising from all investigations across the Group.


Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform intel assessments over non investigative files for links to wider fraud trends and escalate for investigation where appropriate
  • Provide support to investigation teams in the analysis of bank records and documents for the purpose of evidence gathering and to identify serious misconduct patterns
  • Ensure that files identified for recovery opportunity are recorded and external debt collector is engaged to ensure maximum recovery opportunities are met
  • Identify weaknesses in process and procedures within banking products and systems
  • Escalate Data Breach Notifications (DBN) to the Risk & Compliance Senior Manager GII&I for appropriate uploading into JUNO
  • Sort and process recovery cheques received and electronic receipts received into office accounts. Balance recoveries against investigation files and ensure they are entered on the auditable recoveries register
  • Ensure that customer refunds are processed in accordance with write off guidelines and service levels
  • Reconciliation of the office and suspense accounts used in GI to receive recoveries and restitution granted by the Courts

What do I need?

  • Knowledge of the fraud write off process including use of the Spider system
  • Microsoft Office proficient (Excel and Word)
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain key stakeholder relationships
  • Strong organisational, problem solving and communication skills
  • Exposure within a financial services, fraud or operational risk environment
  • Experience in the Investigations/Intelligence field is highly regarded
  • Knowledge of analytical tools for example SAS, Python, Power BI, Tableau, R, SQL or similar is desirable
