Your role


You will be responsible for implementing the Records Retention and Disposal Program for DCJ records to ensure the cost-effective storage and disposal of records in accordance with the State Records Act, standards and codes of best practice.


What you'll do

  • Implement and formulate approved disposal authorities, including the appraisal, sentencing, culling, disposal, and documenting of State records; and the processing, listing and transfer requirements associated with records required as State archives, whilst ensuring those records required to meet business, legal, regulatory and accountability requirements are retained
  • Provide recommendations on records disposal initiatives to ensure records are compliantly sentenced for disposal or retention under the relevant Retention and Disposal Authority
  • Provide detailed recommendation for records disposal to facilitate disposal approval by the nominated Senior Responsible Officer.
  • Ensure DCJ Retention and Disposal Authorities are reviewed and updated accordingly
  • Review and provide advice on DCJ Access Directions to ensure sensitive business records are appropriately managed when custody is transferred to the State NSW.
  • Provide support to the Records Manager on complex records management inquiries, projects or staff training to ensure knowledge of records management is embedded in the organisation and services delivered are timely, compliant and business focused.
  • Provide advice and/or makes recommendations to managers across the business

What we're looking for

Key knowledge and experience

  • Certificate IV in Recordkeeping or equivalent working knowledge and/or experience
  • Experience reviewing and managing a complex retention and disposal process.
  • Current Working with Children's Check (WWCC)

You will also have:

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Someone who can set their own priorities and work as part of a team
  • Someone with exceptional planning and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of records management principles, practises, the State Records Act 1998 and current legislation
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the classification, sentencing, and disposal of records within a records management system.
This is a physical role within an office or warehouse environment, staff are required to safely carry out the following:

  • Frequently bend, lift, kneel, crouch and walk throughout a warehouse or office environment
  • Climb stairs to retrieve boxes
  • Be able to lift up to 6 kgs
  • Operate manual trolleys
