Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland.

The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role


The Financial Operations, Alarms and Systems Support unit manages all activities relating to the departments accounts payable, accounts receivable, corporate cards, banking, debt recovery, alarm monitoring financial activities, disaster recovery funding arrangements and financial systems help-desk support.


Reporting to the Senior Finance Officer, you will be a key member of the team responsible for analysing and classifying alarm activations and reports associated with Unwanted Alarms and Privately Monitored Alarms for the state resulting in the determination of whether the incidents are chargeable or non-chargeable activations.

You will provide high quality customer focused services to internal and external stakeholders, with a focus on assisting in the reduction of unwanted alarms and working with the community and our partners in risk mitigation to support the provision of end to end quality services.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in providing frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Analyse and use initiative to audit Alarm Activation reports to ensure accountability and legal aspects are adhered to and issues are resolved in a professional, ethical and timely manner.
  • Analyse and classify alarm activations to determine whether incidents are chargeable or nonchargeable and prepare invoicing.
  • Ensure quality, accuracy and timeliness of correspondence and information emanating from the Unwanted Alarm Activation (UAA) reports, identifying issues and provide recommendation for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and record document flow to and from the office, deadlines, take followup action and prepare progress reports on activities, ensuring compliance with departmental policy and procedures.
  • Liaise and respond to stakeholder enquiries, and ensure informative and appropriate responses are given, and information relating to data management and/or debt management supports key processes and delivery of positive outcomes.
  • Maintain the UAA statewide database and provide research assistance including data collection, data input and the preparation of statistical reports for management and stakeholder review.
  • Liaise with staff from regional and state offices to obtain and provide information on a range of departmental issues pertaining to unwanted alarm activations.
  • Work effectively in a productive working environment, fostering teamwork and encourage staff commitment and innovation, including actively participating in performance and development programs.
