The function of the Queensland Government Procurement Compliance, Buy Queensland Audit Unit (BQAU) is to strengthen existing policies and initiatives through a program of Audit of all Best Practice Principle projects.

The policies and initiatives are in place to provide guidance, and to further strengthen Queensland for Queenslanders.

The BQAT currently provides audit support on the following policies and initiatives:

  • Best Practice Principles
  • Building and Construction Training Policy
  • Food and Beverage Supplier Directory
  • Local Benefit Tests


The Best Practice Principles provides guidelines for the highest possible standards of workplace health and safety, engaging in agreed numbers of trainees and apprentices and best practice industrial relations on major state government projects.


The team delivers targeted audit and investigation activities on these initiatives with government suppliers for government agencies to build an equal playing field for Queensland Government procurement.


As a part of this team, you will be responsible for conducting state-wide compliance activities including on-site audits and investigations to ensure the success of the Buy Queensland approach through audit and investigation services aimed at ensuring suppliers meet their obligations when supplying to the Queensland Government.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct statewide supplier audits, inspections, assessments, and selected investigations through methodical gathering and detailed analysis of evidence and other compliance data.
  • Undertake statewide compliance activities including audits to establish supplier compliance to the Queensland Procurement Policy, Ethical Supplier Mandate, Building and Construction Training Policy.
  • Auditing suppliers to confirm compliance with criteria as registered on the Queensland Government Food and Beverage Supplier Directory including performing Local Benefits Tests.
  • Prepare audit and selected investigation reports, recommendations, and reviews of technical information arising out of supplier breaches of the Queensland Procurement Policy, Ethical Supplier Mandate and other Queensland Government Policies as assigned.
  • Ensure all audit, investigation, information, and data is appropriately managed and recorded.
  • Identify actual or perceived risk of noncompliance and recommend actions for substantiated noncompliance against the Ethical Supplier framework.
  • Reduce instances of noncompliance by increasing stakeholder understanding of the Queensland Procurement Policy and other Queensland Government Policies by developing information and training materials, liaising with them and ensuring that they understand audit and investigations findings and other compliance activities outcomes.
