The Opportunity

As an Executive Director within the Investment Team, it is an expectation you will lead complex and crucial subsets of the investment function​. It is a requirement you hold a combination of deep domain expertise and masterful people management skills with your highest level direct report(s) being Directors.

As a custodian of the investment inputs through investment proposals or portfolio design work, you will often be directly accountable for owning high impact external (manager) relationships. It is an expectation that you are accountable for the team culture, tone, ambition and people’s professional development.

The Property team is part of the overall Investment Team and is responsible for the Investment and performance of the property component of the Future Fund portfolio. The team are responsible for considering all geographies and risk exposures across assets and will collaborate with the Listed Tangibles team on listed property exposures.

The Property team are a function within the Real Assets pillar, and as the Executive Director, you will report to and work closely with the Managing Director, Real Assets, taking empowered ownership of single core subsection (Property).

This role is open to APS employees only.

Key Responsibilities

Organisational Leadership

  • Contribute to an inclusive, dynamic and high performing team culture, and commit to the success of the team and people.

  • Be an active Agency citizen, supporting organisation initiatives and encouraging participation from all members of the Investment team.

  • Input into operational delivery of organisational initiatives to contribute to the Agency becoming more efficient as an organisation

Property strategy

  • Responsible for setting and delivering on the Property strategy.

  • Lead development and construction of the property portfolio including setting investment objectives, strategies and leading implementation, in partnership with the Managing Director, Real Assets.

  • Implementation of due diligence and monitoring processes for funds and assets in the property portfolio.

  • Drive and be accountable for the development of the organisation's views on investing in Property

Investment judgement & contribution

  • Active management of the portfolio to produce target returns.

  • Maintain sound knowledge of overall portfolio composition and risk/return characteristics and ensure these are reflected in the property strategy.

  • Managing the existing portfolio and driving performance. This may include assuming Directorships of assets or positions on advisory boards of funds and protecting the Fund's interest in a professional, value adding manner.

  • Monitor and evaluate trends within both listed and property.

  • Oversee commercial negotiations on transactions to ensure the Future Fund’s risks are managed and return expectations are met including overall responsibility for the transaction.

  • Identify and assess risks associated with property investments, implementing effective risk mitigation strategies.

Relationship management

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with investment managers, direct investors and operating partners within the Property Investment domain.

  • Collaborate with risk management teams to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and risk tolerance parameters.

About You

Qualifications

  • Essential: A University degree is required (Economics, Commerce, Finance or Engineering is preferred).

  • Post graduate studies / similar professional accreditation in a related field (e.g. Finance, commerce, MBA or CFA) will be desirable

Knowledge and Experience

  • A senior investment professional, ideally with commercial real estate investment exposure

  • Strong understanding of multi-asset class investment management (e.g. portfolio construction / investment strategy)

  • Demonstrated ability to work in partnership with a broad range of senior stakeholders

  • Highly organised with strong time and output management ability

  • Demonstrated ability to work in partnership with others

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Property sectors, investment managers and direct asset investors.

  • Ability to provide a commercial focus including proven negotiating skills.
