Trades Assistant – Ideal for Retirees Seeking Active, Purposeful Work

PCA Ground Engineering is a specialist civil construction company delivering ground engineering and infrastructure solutions across Queensland and New South Wales. With a growing pipeline of work, we're looking for a reliable Trades Assistant to support our yard and workshop operations in Arundel.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys physical work, has practical experience, and values teamwork and safety. Whether you've worked in construction, maintenance, or simply enjoy working with your hands, we'd love to hear from you.

Key responsibilities of the Trades Assistant

  • Helping maintain and clean construction equipment and tools
  • Assisting with loading/unloading materials and plant
  • Keeping the yard tidy and organised
  • Supporting tradespeople with basic mechanical and repair tasks
  • Helping with stocktakes and inventory
  • Performing basic panel/body work as needed
  • Conducting pre-start checks on tools and vehicles
  • Following safety procedures and contributing to a safe work environment
  • Performing VOCs on new and existing PCA employees

Skills / Experience required for the Trades Assistant:

  • Life experience and a practical mindset
  • Basic mechanical knowledge or hands-on tool experience
  • Forklift licence (or willingness to get one)
  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual work
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • A strong work ethic and safety-first attitude

Highly desirable skills (Not essential)

  • Excavator or telehandler ticket
  • HR/MR truck licence
  • White card or rail worker tickets
  • Cert 4 in training and assessment
